Cartridge-type ink tubes encapsulate ink in a sealed ink tube. When in use, they are installed behind the grip. The ink guide tube protruding behind the grip is used to pierce the seal of the ink tube, or to push open the bead that seals the ink tube. The bead that seals the ink tube has another function by allowing the ink to flow along the ink tube to the pen tip. Due to the small volume of the ink tube, the weight of the ink stored may not be enough to overcome the adhesion between the ink and the ink tube wall.( capillarity) , causing ink to accumulate above the ink tube and unable to flow into the pen tip. At this time, the movement of the beads in the ink tube along with the writing action is enough to destroy the adhesion of the ink to the ink tube wall.

The piston fills ink, and a hollow sleeve is connected behind the grip. There is a piston in the sleeve that is linked to a knob at the end of the pen. It can be controlled by the knob to move forward and backward in the sleeve. When the piston retreats, it facilitates the stroke inside the sleeve. Negative pressure allows the ink to be sucked in through the pen tip and stored in the sleeve.

To fill the ink bag with a pressure bag, a rubber or silicone ink bag is connected to the back of the grip. The inside of the ink bag is the space for storing ink. Usually there is a U-shaped reed on the outside of the ink bag to protect the ink bag. When filling, the ink bag is squeezed through the reed. Press the ink bag to expel the air, and after releasing the pressure, use the negative pressure to return the ink bag to its original shape to suck in the ink.

Pull rod inking is a deformation of pressure bag filling. A pull rod is installed on the pen barrel. When inking, pull the pull rod to press the ink bag in the pen barrel to fill the ink.

Crescent inking is also a deformation of pressure bladder inking. The front is a cassette combined with the grip, and the rear is a pressure bag or piston only inking mechanism, without ink absorption.
